In Her Words - A Boudoir Experience With Miss S. | Raleigh, North Carolina | Boudoir Photographer
“I don’t talk about my recovery often because it’s hard. It’s hard to share the shame - for feeling the weakness, for fumbling along the way. It’s hard to express experiences and thoughts to those who can sympathize, but not empathize. It’s hard to fear that vocalizing what I feel, that giving audible words to my struggles, breathes life into the eating disorder I’ve been slowly suffocating through my recovery the past three years….”
Why did you choose Beyond Boudoir for your boudoir experience?: After the initial face-to-face meeting with Dave I felt comfortable trusting him.
Did you feel comfortable throughout your session?: Most definitely, Dave does a great job of being professional while keeping things light-hearted and goofy.
How did you feel when you first saw your images?: Nervous immediately prior to seeing them but once we went through the slideshow I was pleasantly surprised with how happy I was with a large percentage of the images. They definitely helped me to see myself from a different perspective.
Would you do a session again?: For sure, it was a ton of fun.
What would you say to someone on the fence about doing a session?: You’re never 100% ready for most things in life so just go for it. Getting out of your comfort zone is a good thing.
“After taking so many incredible photos I was asked why I chose to do the photoshoot. While I couldn’t vocalize it then, I did it because I wanted to see myself from a different perspective, not through my distorting eye but through an artist’s unbiased lens. I didn’t do it for the outside approval; no amount of external influence will make me love who I am. I did this for myself. And once it was all over, this moment, with tears welling in my eyes and the smallest of smirks, I felt happy. I felt empowered. I felt love. I’m growing. I’m recovering.”
